Itinerary

Day 1:

Puerto Maldonado - Filadelfia - Night Walk - Upper Tambopata chuncho Macaws Clay Lick

On the first day, our activities will begin at 10:00 in the morning. You have the option to meet us at our Amazon Garden Lodge office in Puerto Maldonado or we can arrange to pick you up from your Hotel/Bus Terminal or Airport. We will then embark on a two-hour journey.

The first hour will be spent on the interoceanic highway, followed by a less congested road that will lead us to the banks of the Tambopata river. Upon arrival, our boat and motorist will be ready to transport us upstream along the river for approximately 30 minutes until we reach our Lodge.

During the boat ride, we will have opportunities to observe various birds and wildlife such as capybaras and white caimans along the riverside. Once we arrive at the lodge, you will be welcomed with a refreshing drink, and we will provide a brief overview of the services available during your stay.

After settling into your assigned room, you will have the opportunity to explore the surroundings on foot.

Following lunch, we will take a short break before embarking on a walk through a primary forest that is home to ancient trees.

Throughout the walk, we will provide informative commentary on the significant economic activities in our region, including agriculture, mining, logging, chestnut collection (Brazil nut), and ecotourism. Additionally, we will keep an eye out for monkeys and other mammals in their natural habitats.

At sunset, we will return to the lodge and gather our flashlights for an excursion to observe alligators, capybaras, and potentially spot felines that venture near the river in search of prey.

After enjoying our dinner, for those who still have energy, we can partake in a short nighttime walk. This activity aims to discover insects, arachnids, tarantulas, and possibly encounter snakes, armadillos, night monkeys, or tapirs in close proximity to the lodge.

Day 2:

Lodge - Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick - Puerto Maldonado

On the second day, we will wake up bright and early and embark on an upstream journey at 4:30 am, accompanied by the serene beauty of the sunrise and the calming aroma of a delicious cup of coffee.

The landscape that unfolds before us is truly awe-inspiring, and there is a chance, albeit a 20% one, that we might catch a glimpse of a majestic jaguar or an impressive anaconda along the shores of the Tambopata National Reserve.

Upon reaching our destination, we will be treated to a captivating spectacle of parrots and macaws.

We will have the opportunity to observe these birds up close and understand why they, along with many other mammals, rely on the clay from the nearby wall as an essential part of their daily diet throughout the year.

This enthralling show will keep us engaged from approximately 6:00 am to 11:00 am. We will enjoy a delicious breakfast overlooking the Collpa Chuncho. (Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick)

After concluding our activities at this site, we will make a brief visit to the checkpoint, where we can enhance our knowledge by exploring a small museum.

Following that, we will proceed to our lodge to savor a delightful lunch. After a short break, we can visit the Mississippi ravine waterfall for a refreshing swim and also learn about various products that thrive in the fertile land of Madre de Dios.
