Since we are located deep in the Amazon rainforest, our base in Tambopata, Peru, becomes a birding paradise. Over 900 species of birds have been identified in the area, making it one of the best places in the world for birdwatchers.

BEGINNERS
Learn how to become an enthusiastic birder. The birding world at TRC is surprisingly diverse and the ideal place to catch birding fever. During your excursion with an expert guide, you will learn about the proper use of binoculars and telescopes, the basics of birding techniques, how to identify the main families, recognize sounds and become familiar with their different habitats.
MODERATE
If you are already familiar with the basics of birding and the proper use of your equipment, you are ready for the next level. On this tour, we will shift our focus from learning the basics to a more in-depth birding experience. With the help of our birding guides, we will focus on differentiating between various habitats and better understand the behavioral patterns of your favorite bird species.
BIRDING FOR EXPERTS
This is the ideal activity for bird watching enthusiasts. With the assistance of our specialized guides, we will help you find those species that are not yet on your list. Tambopata is home to a great diversity of specialist species. Get ready for an intense 4-hour birding session to search for and try to spot the elusive birds that are still missing from your list.
Binoculars
For Tambopata birding, these will be your most important birding tools as they will allow you to learn more about their physical characteristics. Binoculars are two small telescopes mounted in parallel that provide the observer with “binocular” vision and three-dimensional images. They differ in size and distance from the lens, as well as in the configuration of the internal prisms, resulting in different magnification, brightness levels and clarity.
Printed Guides
These are basic references for identifying birds you have observed in the wild. These guides are usually regional (by country or part of a country) and include illustrations or photographs, as well as a basic description of the species, highlighting the main characteristics of each species.
They also have distribution maps that allow you to exclude birds that are not in your viewing area. Take the time to explore them and carefully compare what you see with the options in the guide. Some guides now have a mobile app version that also includes songs and other multimedia.
Cameras
Sometimes birds are found in situations that are difficult to see with binoculars, such as when they are far away, backlit, or covered in thick vegetation. Other times, we simply cannot identify them in the wild because we do not know the species or have doubts about certain specimens.
Photographs are a very useful additional tool for documenting birds about which we have doubts, for providing further study guides, or for consulting with colleagues or experts. They can also be very valuable materials for disseminating or validating records of scientific merit.
Sound recording
There is often great variation in the songs and calls of birds, both individually and in groups, which tell the story of how they interact with each other and with other elements of the ecosystem.
Sometimes we may not be able to observe certain species because of their cautious behavior or field conditions; in such cases, their sounds will be the only source of information we have about their presence.
Birders and nature lovers go out into nature and record a symphony of the Earth’s songs using a variety of devices.
Basically, you need a microphone and a digital recorder to record nature sounds. You can use different types of equipment depending on the investment you want to make and the definition you want to achieve.
